THE PORTNOY FEST

[imgr_w=180]#images#/posts/2009/10/progressivenationtour livereport8.jpg[/imgr_w]Prog fans also have their festival! A festival where you don’t walk around dressed as Sponge Bob Squarepants, a giant phallus or a Viking, where you don’t spill your beer over your T-shirt and where you don’t meet tall, shirtless, sweaty blond guys.

You don’t waste your time wondering why Araya doesn’t perform the world-famous “yaaaarrrrhhhhhhh” at the beginning of “Angel of Death”. You don’t go into raptures over the incisive aspect of Pestilence vocalist’s “Eurgh! Eurgh!” on “Devouring Frenzy”.

Evergrey ad played in the past in this very hall but the main difference being that their show at that time was played sold-out.

[url=#article#]Which is not really the case tonight at the Nouveau Casino who can hold twice as much as tonight. [/url]

KREATOR AT BRISBANE’S HI-FI

[imgr_w=150]#images#/posts/2009/09/kreator livereport10.JPG[/imgr_w]To receive a European band on stage is always a mighty event here in Australia – an event the audience always appreciates.

For the Aussies, more used to welcoming American artists, it was a good opportunity to discover exactly what the veterans of German thrash metal were worth. Judging by the clamor and the warmth coming from the audience on Friday, September 25th, Mile Petrozza and his band mates haven’t lost one speck of their aura.

MR BIG IN PARIS

[imgr_w=150]#images#/posts/2009/09/mrbig livereport.jpg[/imgr_w]Mr. Big are finally back on French soil after a 15-year-long absence. Aside from their albums’ huge success, the band are also famous for their stage performances. The concert at La Cigale in 1994, and especially their show as Aerosmith’s opening act the year before that, are still on our minds when we get to Le Bataclan.

[url=#article#]Tonight Paul Gilbert, Billy Sheehan and the other band members will march under the banner of Mr. Big – let there be fun!

BLUE ÖYSTER CULT AT THE OLYMPIA IN PARIS

[imgr_w=150]#images#/posts/2009/09/blueoystercult livereport.JPG[/imgr_w]These dinosaurs are still alive! Check this out: first album by Blue Öyster Cult released in 1972. Uriah Heep’s first album released in 1970.

It was a psychedelic time of peace & love and the birth of hard rock – no mention of metal quite yet – and a whole bunch of other concepts that don’t exist anymore. Forty years later. Forty years already… Do you get the dinosaur remark now?

[url=#article#]Well, dear insolent readers, read on about these oldies’ performance on the 6th of September 2009. You will see that old is sometimes better than new…

MADBALL IN PARIS

[imgr_w=180]#images#/posts/2009/08/madball livereport3.JPG[/imgr_w] The hardcore gatherings are in full bloom in Paris this August. After Agnostic Front ten days earlier, it was Madball’s turn to land in the New Casino with a few bleeding combos and supported by many loyal fans, who once again answered the call. The NYHC will be de rigueur again tonight with one of their worthy representatives, namely Madball, and a Freddy Cricien who literally wet his shirt for his fans.

The French are in da place (cock-a-doodle-do!), the Americans are here too but above all here are the Godfathers of Hardcore from New York, Agnostic Front. They have a 26 years old carreer, some fifteen albums and these guys are a corner stone in the Hardcore scene.

[url=#article#]On their website, they called for all the punks, skins and metalheads to come and support them. Did they hear all right? Here’s the answer. [/url]
