Far From A Punishment
| Wednesday, June 30th, 2010 at 1:29pm by Doc' | On Tour With |
Spending the whole day with the members of Punish Yourself is far from a punishment. Furthermore, on this Saturday 5th of May, the weather is pleasant and even quite hot in Lyon today. For those of you who (still) don’t know Punish Yourself; they are the leading “electronic rock ‘n‘ roll” band in France. Their music is very similar to industrial metal even though the band from Toulouse have managed to evolve towards different sounds, such as batcave (Gore Baby Gore) and instrumental (Cult Movie). Moreover, Punish Yourself was headlining the Lyon Metal Fest V of which you will be able to read the live report in the next few days on Radio Metal website.
But before that, enter the Punish Yourself universe for a day...

A good occasion to meet the Swiss band, on the road for the promo tour of their new album “Above”, in stores since last year. Radio Metal was invited into the intimacy of the tour, to reveal the backstage atmoshpere, the personality of Samael, and to give you important information on their next album.
This is an exclusive tour report of the Lyon and Strasbourg shows on March 30th and 31st.

It’s the start of the Infected Nations tour to continue promoting their new album with the same name and it is mainly a fresh new start for Evile. After the sudden death of their beloved bassist Mike Alexander, from now on it is Joel Graham who will be replacing him in the English band. The aim of the tour will be to pick up things where they had left them and to introduce Joel to their fans. It is also a unique moment for the band, who are still appearing fragile, to finally turn the page.
To enter Evile's lair it is here...
Nevermind The Imperfections
| Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010 at 11:56am by Radio Metal | Live Report |
As a starter for their show in Lyon that very same night, The Gathering unplugged themselves for a half hour acoustic set in the music shop Gilbert Joseph at the Carré de Soie Vaulx-en-Velin. Those present at the intimate session were Silje Wergeland (vocals), Marjolein Kooijman (guitar) and Frank Boeijen (keyboard), who followed up with a traditional signing session.

God Is An Astronaut : Live In London
| Thursday, February 25th, 2010 at 12:33am by Radio Metal | Live Report |
Amongst the plethora of rock and metal musical styles there is one that had only emerged in the last 20 to 30 years and has only gained some notoriety in maybe the last 15 years. This style uses the common rock instruments, aided by lots of effects (reminiscent of the shoe-gaze era) and overall a big emphasis on the instrumental side, while the vocals, if present, are only punctuating the atmosphere. Musically, they are something in between the aggressive riffing of genres like thrash metal and the extreme melodic technicality of progressive styles, with the effects changing the soundscape from band to band. But as people prefer to use short words when they refer to something, this whole movement was encompassed in the term post-rock.
Last week, the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London decided to offer us a night with three bands that are active in this domain, with the very popular God is an Astronaut headlining.
DELAIN’S PARISIAN ENDING
| Tuesday, February 23th, 2010 at 12:34am by Saff | On Tour With |
No guys, we’re not talking about their definitive end; we are talking about the end of their tour as headlining act throughout a bunch of European countries. It has to be said that Delain’s relationship with France is something really special. For their last concert, Charlotte, Ronald and the others unloaded their suitcases (and instruments) once again for a sold out concert in Paris at the Elysée Montmartre.
« How the hell did they manage that ?! », you ask yourself ? Read on and see.
Chains To Heaven
| Friday, February 19th, 2010 at 2:32pm by Dimebag | Live Report |
How can you hold back the tears? How can you not feel real emotions when you go to an Alice In Chains concert? Alice In Chains live: we had dreamed of the moment, and to be honest, we had given up hope. However, the dream finally came true on this Friday 4th of December 2009. Jerry Cantrell’s band were there, in front of our dumbfounded eyes, to make us relive all of their 90s hits and new album, Black Gives Way To Blue, a massive album for 2009. Box office is closed and the Bataclan is steaming us, this is where it all happened. Radio Metal tells you the tale.
Lacuna Coil : Live In London
| Thursday, February 18th, 2010 at 8:48pm by Radio Metal | Live Report |
Lacuna Coil has had a quick ascent in the musical business, having reached notoriety after only a couple of albums. Many people argue though that this is only because of the fabulous looks of the female vocalist Cristina Scabbia and their music is not very inspired, especially after they've switched styles with Karmacode. On the other hand, their fan base is big enough to swallow all of the critic so rather than trying to make sense of all the chatter, we decided it is best to attend a live concert of the band so we can find out for ourselves if there is more music than the looks.
The opportunity came soon enough when the European tour of their latest album Shallow Life scheduled an evening in London, at the Shepherd's Bush Empire.
THE PORTNOY FEST
| Friday, February 12th, 2010 at 2:6pm by Metal'O Phil | Live Report |
Prog fans also have their festival! A festival where you don't walk around dressed as Sponge Bob Squarepants, a giant phallus or a Viking, where you don't spill your beer over your T-shirt and where you don't meet tall, shirtless, sweaty blond guys. You don't waste your time wondering why Araya doesn't perform the world-famous “yaaaarrrrhhhhhhh” at the beginning of “Angel of Death”. You don't go into raptures over the incisive aspect of Pestilence vocalist's “Eurgh! Eurgh!” on “Devouring Frenzy”.

Radio Metal had the opportunity to follow the band on a few of their French dates.
For your eyes only, here is the tour report for the concerts in Lyon and in Strasbourg !

Stratovarius: Again And Again
| Saturday, January 30th, 2010 at 01:23am by Metal'O Phil | Live Report |
In the past five years, Stratovarius have known almost as many splits and reunions as they have album releases and tours – to the great dismay of the fans, and to the sheer pleasure of us “journalists”, who can't live without a healthy dose of drama.According to Matias Kupianen, this is all over.
The man, whom we met shortly before the Villeurbanne show, seems to be naturally anxious and does his best to avoid meeting our gaze. Joining a band is one thing – filling in for a long-time member is another. And standing in for the band's founder, without whom everybody thought Stratovarius was dead, cannot be an easy task...

| Thursday, January 28th, 2010 at 02:27am by Lost | Live Report |
It was a psychedelic time of peace & love and the birth of hard rock – no mention of metal quite yet – and a whole bunch of other concepts that don’t exist anymore. Forty years later. Forty years already... Do you get the dinosaur remark now?
Well, dear insolent readers, read on about these oldies’ performance on the 6th of September 2009. You will see that old is sometimes better than new...

SUICIDAL TENDENCIES AT THE GARAGE IN SAARBRÜCKEN
| Friday, January 15th, 2010 at 11:6am by Le Duc | Live Report |
In the heat of any Franco-German night, you are bound to witness some exceptional moments. We gathered for a sort of mass, the type of great big ceremonial which has no place in the world of metal. Having returned from Hellfest and triumphed at Graspop, Suicidal Tendencies were back tonight on the boiling hot stage at the Garage...
Here is the tale of a love story between a band and their fans.

KREATOR AT BRISBANE'S HI-FI
| Wednesday, January 6th, 2010 at 2:13pm by Thibaut | Live Report |
For the Aussies, more used to welcoming American artists, it was a good opportunity to discover exactly what the veterans of German thrash metal were worth. Judging by the clamor and the warmth coming from the audience on Friday, September 25th, Mile Petrozza and his band mates haven't lost one speck of their aura.
Kreator in Brisbane.
RAISMESFEST 2009
| Wednesday, November 25th, 2009 at 1:23pm by Metal'O Phil | Festival Report |

The joys of the open air : we are 1 kilometre away from the festival gates and we are already enjoying the first tracks of the Stormzone gig.
Nothing revolutionary about it really and that’s not really the point for them. Stormzone’s radio type heavy metal is the first to address the Raismefest crowd : mainly heavy metal and oldschool fans.
The English band’s music and performace is effectively concentional and evokes a certain sense of deja-vu. The tracks also have the bad habit of being needlessly long...
