OMNIUM GATHERUM a annoncé l’arrivée de l’ancien membre d’ARCH ENEMY Nick Cordle dans ses rangs. Il remplace Joonas Koto en tant que second guitariste, celui-ci qui avait annoncé son départ en mars 2020. Le guitariste Nick Cordle (ex-ARCH ENEMY) rejoint le groupe SANCTUARY qui s’est récemment séparé de son guitariste Brad Hull. Le groupe a sorti l’année dernière son album The Year The Sun Died chez Century Media Records.

Arch Enemy: Big debriefing with Michael Amott and Alissa White-Gluz

The last time we spoke to Michael Amott and Angela Gossow, in April 2011, to talk about Khaos Legions (a long and rich interview which we still recommend to this day), we would never have thought that a tsunami would hit Arch Enemy three years later. Nothing in those interviews ever suggested the emblematic screamer would just up and leave. And yet, Amott now mentions “heralding signs”, “changes in her attitude” that “everybody in the band noticed”. Sometimes, when the passion is gone, change is the only solution left.

After all, change turned out to be a good thing for the band in the early 2000s. But the context is different: this time, Arch Enemy lost a face and a voice that everybody knew. Unruffled, and with the help of their now ex-frontwoman, the band has arranged a smooth, meticulously orchestrated transition. After keeping the news secret for months, they have finally revealed the name of their new voice: Alissa White-Gluz, of The Agonist fame, will step into Angela’s shoes on ten out of thirteen songs on Arch Enemy’s new album, War Eternal.

We talked to guitarist Michael Amott about this transfer of power, the replacement of his brother Christopher by Nick Cordie (the second big change on War Eternal, which makes the band’s leader surprisingly “happy”), and the album itself, from the artwork to the unusual orchestrations. Christopher Amott fait cavalier seul

Au cours de toute sa carrière au sein d’Arch Enemy, Christopher Amott (photo*) a toujours été le membre qui semblait le plus ressentir un besoin d’indépendance et dont on pouvait prévoir qu’il se lasse, à terme, du metal extrême. Le frère de Michael Amott a pendant longtemps alterné entre Arch Enemy et son projet Armageddon. Officiant au départ dans un registre death metal mélodique/metalcore, ces derniers ont évolué en 2000, via l’album Embrace The Mystery, vers un style plus proche du heavy et du power metal européen. Exit le chant guttural, donc, ce qui représentait à l’époque un premier signe de la volonté du guitariste de jouer autre chose. Quant à son indépendance, il l’a prise une première fois en 2005 en quittant Arch Enemy, déclarant au fanclub français Arch Enemy France ne plus se sentir impliqué à tous les niveaux. Après quoi, l’homme a travaillé son jeu de guitare en solitaire, tout s’essayant au métier d’enseignant de la musique. Il annonçait alors que les prochains disques sur lesquels il travaillerait n’auraient plus rien à voir avec le metal.
