Shakra: a lasting identity

Despite the frequent line-up changes they have been through during their career, Shakra have managed to keep a lasting identity thanks to the two founding members, who have maintained the original spirit of the band. When we interviewed him a few weeks ago, guitarist Thomas Muster insisted: “Actually, it wasn’t that hard, because Thomas Blunier and me, Shakra’s core, we’ve known each other for twenty years: so Shakra hasn’t changed so far. I’m also the main song writer, and I think this is the reason why Shakra still sounds like Shakra: it doesn’t matter whom we work with, it will still be Shakra. These changes weren’t a big problem for us. There are bands, like Iron Maiden, who changed their singer, and it didn’t work: in our case, it seems to work and we’re really happy with that. […] Having new musicians is a new experience for the band, for sure, but in the end, what is important to us is Shakra”.

Thomas seems satisfied with the balance the band have found between said original spirit and the involvement of their new members, Dominic Pfister and John Prakesh: “Dominic and John wrote some lyrics: it was cool. Both are focused and integrated in the band, and that’s perfect. I think you can hear this on the new album: Shakra sounds like a really strong band. ”.

Shakra : une identité qui perdure

Malgré les fréquents changements de line-up que le groupe a connu au cours de sa carrière, Shakra a su faire perdurer son identité grâce à la présence de ses deux membres fondateurs qui ont maintenu l’esprit originel. Thomas Muster, guitariste du groupe, que nous avons interviewé il y a quelques semaines, insiste : « le cœur de Shakra, c’est Thomas Blunier et moi : on se connaît depuis plus de vingt ans, donc Shakra n’a pas changé. De plus, je suis aussi le principal compositeur, et je crois que c’est la raison pour laquelle Shakra sonne toujours Shakra. Savoir avec qui on va travailler a peu d’importance, cela sera toujours Shakra. Ces changements n’ont pas été un gros problème pour nous. Certains groupes, comme Iron Maiden, ont changé de chanteur et cela n’a pas marché : dans notre cas, cela a marché et on est contents de cela. […] Avoir de nouveaux musiciens est une expérience nouvelle, bien sûr, mais au bout du compte, ce qui est important, c’est Shakra  ».

Thomas semble par ailleurs satisfait de l’équilibre qu’a trouvé le combo entre la contribution des nouveaux arrivants, Dominic Pfister et John Prakesh, et le maintien de cet esprit d’origine : « Dominic et John ont écrit quelques paroles : c’était cool. Les deux sont concentrés sur le combo et bien intégrés : cela peut s’entendre sur l’album, je pense. Shakra sonne comme un groupe très solide. »
