Pat McManus in perfect honesty

Although he’s a talented guitarist, a charismatic person and a musician worth seeing on stage, Pat McManus was never extremely successful. His career has been punctuated by several strokes of bad luck that made him lose hope.

Walking Through Shadows is an album title that symbolizes the mountain of obstacles that life unfairly puts in the way of many an artist, despite a colossal investment. In terms of transparency, Pat goes even further, and the song “Walking In The Shadows Of Giants” is an admission of jealousy towards those who came before him and found success. We can only bow to such honesty.

But don’t be mistaken: Pat McManus is not one of those embittered musicians who spit on the big guns, hiding their jealousy behind dubious artistic opinions. The guitarist’s respect and admiration for Jimi Hendrix, for example, never faltered. Pat McManus is not blasé. His disappointment made way to a pragmatic acceptance of his situation, and his (typically Irish, or so he says) patience and composure allow him to smile whatever the circumstances. In the end, those qualities are the reason he never gave up.

Pat McManus en toute honnêteté

S’il est un guitariste talentueux et un personnage charismatique très agréable à voir sur scène, Pat McManus n’a jamais eu beaucoup de succès. Son parcours contient en effet de nombreux moments de malchance qui lui ont même fait perdre espoir.

Walking Through Shadows est un titre d’album qui symbolise évidemment cette montagne d’obstacles que la vie réserve injustement aux artistes, malgré leur investissement colossal. Pat va plus loin dans la transparence puisque le morceau « Walking In The Shadows Of Giants » est un aveu de jalousie vis-à-vis de ses prédécesseurs qui ont réussi. Une honnêteté devant laquelle on s’incline.

Néanmoins détrompez-vous. Pat McManus n’est pas un de ces musiciens aigris qui crachent sur les grosses pointures, masquant leur jalousie avec des opinions artistiques douteuses. L’admiration et le respect du guitariste vis-à-vis de Jimi Hendrix n’a, par exemple, jamais tari. Pat McManus n’est pas blasé. Sa déception a laissé la place à une acceptation pragmatique de sa situation. Une patience et un flegme (typiquement irlandais selon lui) qui lui permettent de sourire en toute circonstance et qui font que, au final, il n’a jamais abandonné.
